july school holidays!

Head on out to The Maze during the July school holidays and be one of the first in Perth to conquer Phil’s Frustration, a brand new maze which is being installed just in time for the holidays!

Created from miniature hedges and limestone blocks, Phil’s Frustration is a tricky no-right-hand-turn-maze. Participants that wish to take up the challenge are given the task of navigating their way through the maze without making any right hand turns or u-turns.

250 miniature native peppermint bushes (Agonis flexuosa nana) were planted to form small hedges throughout the maze.  Planted in November 2007, the peppermint bushes currently stand 40cm high, so they still have some growing to do before they reach their full height of 70cm.

The maze has been named after Park Manager, Phil Dixon, who has had somewhat of a frustrating time building the maze! “This maze has certainly been a long time coming. We have had all sorts of hiccups including losing a number of plants during a heat wave, but the end result looks great and it really is a fun challenge to find your way through it, so it was definitely worth the effort!” says Phil.

Phil’s Frustration is the latest edition to the park which also includes Perth’s largest timber maze, 2 pine tree mazes, Tayla’s Tangle (a rope maze), Danae’s Dilemma (a no-left-hand-turn-maze) as well as nine holes of mini golf, disc golf, koalas, kangaroos and emus.
